Piece of the Month - February 2008
Welcome back to the Piece of the Month! The last
rather long month lasted for about three years, so I'm hoping to get
back to a more normal timetable.
Any suggestions, corrections or other comments will be most welcome:
just email martin@luteshop.co.uk.
Downloadable files are provided in Fronimo, Tab and PDF. I have discontinued the MIDI file as
background sound to the page and substituted my own recording of one or
more of the pieces on a real lute - just click on the link to hear it.
The Spanish
Pavan
There are many anonymous settings of this tune: here is a
simple one from Dd.2.11, and a more elaborate set of variations which
occurs in almost identical form in the Weld Lute Book (f.1) and
Dd.9.33. This second piece is typical of those settings which
are carefully composed and deserving of our attention even though the
composer is unknown.
